Response Papers: 30% of the total mark of the course is allocated to two response papers which are intended to assess your ability to engage critically with a variety of academic debates represented in the assigned course readings. Your papers should not simply be summaries of the readings (although you should also provide these) but rather should argue the relative merits of the claims, assumptions, conceptual arguments, research design (where relevant), evidence, and/or implications of each assigned text. You should also try to situate the readings in the broader academic or thematic field as a whole in order to demonstrate a general grasp of core debates on the particular topic you choose (and which will also be the subject of the related lectures). There is no strict word limit on the individual response papers but 1000-1600 words each should suffice to meet the requirements of the assignment
You are free to select which two topics you wish to write on as long as you select one from each half of the first term
