In this chapter, we have discussed the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, which gives credit unions, savings and loans, banks, insurance agencies, mortgage companies, and other financial institutions the right to sell customer information to marketing companies, affiliates, and others. Some individuals believe that doing this is ethical since customers have the right to opt out of having their information sold and because by law these organizations have the right to make additional income through selling customers’ information.
