You have learned how to distinguish scholarly from popular sources of information, evaluate the scholarly value of information, search databases, how to tell the difference between a research and review article, and how to properly site scholarly articles. To complete the circle of learning you are going to find some additional information regarding your insect Order
To help you with your investigation I am providing a couple of links to resources that provide reliable information about insects
UF Featured Creatures This site profiles insects, nematodes, and other organisms, and contains peer-reviewed information.
EOL Encyclopedia of Life This site is a reliable source of information on many of the life-forms on earth
Create a Fact Sheet that provides some interesting and valuable information about your insect Order: Due by 10 pm on 7/9/22
Provide the scientific Order name for your collected insect
Include your hand drawn image of the insect you identified to Order.
Identify on the figure and then list (in order) the physical characteristics used to identify the insect Order.
List at least 3 common names of insects in the Order. Make sure to include the common name for the insect you collected and identified to Order. Cite your sources. NOTE: Make sure you are using the AMA format (there is a link below that will take you to a AMA citation style guide)
Describe a habitat of your insect Order. Cite your sources
Describe a diet of your insect Order. Cite your sources
Describe 1-2 additional interesting facts or traits of your insect Order. Cite your sources
Interesting facts could include:
impact on human (or animal) health (does it spread diseased).
do humans eat the insect for food.
how does Wolbachia affect its reproduction?
or any other factual item you came across in your investigation.
make sure that this unique trait is NOT a morphological trait or physical characteristic that helped you to identify your insect. For example: if you needed to identify the coiled mouthparts of your Lepidopteran sample in the dichotomous key, you cannot express that as an interesting fact
Create a bibliography (list of citations) of the sources you used to gather this information. Make sure to use proper AMA citation formats. Refer to the AMA style guide for assistance. Also make sure to include the citation for the research article and review article you found previously.
When you are finished creating the fact sheet, upload the document to the Fact Sheet dropbox. This is due by 10 pm on 7/9/22
