This is the third installment on my Capstone project on postpartum depression. My main subject is my cousin who had a baby 6 weeks ago and has been diagnosed with postpartum depression. In my interviews with her she states that technology has been both a help and a hindrance. Telehealth is comforting in the fact that she feels support is always available. However she states that social media sites such as Face Book and New mom sites make her feel inadequate and increase her feelings of isolation.
In a 5-7 page written assessment, determine how health care technology, coordination of care, and community resources can be applied to address the patient, family, or population of postpartum depression.
Speaking with the staff at the hospital, they talk of Postpartum risk assessments both pre and postnatally which are assessments which consist of a screening tool comprised of questions, and based on a patients answers it will flag those at risk for postpartum depression. Also there is a program that has been initiated that provides call backs to all new moms to check in in order to touuch base and allow new moms the oppurtunity to voice feelings/concerns.
The staff I spoke with included RN’s, the Manager of the Mother Infant Unit as well as the Manager of the Infant Loss group who runs both the infant loss Program and The Post Partum Support Groups.
My cousin also voiced that the facility in which she delivered/ the one which I work as well as the one that I have been speaking with the staff/leaders provided her with breast feeding and postpartum depression support lines to call as well as offers bi weekly new mom support groups as well as 3 times a week breeastfeeding support groups.
