Week 5- DQ 1
Everybody is in an uproar at Hometown High School. Somebody did a job with spray cans on the high school. The graffiti looks suspiciously like something you saw at a recent drive- in conference on gangs. Other teachers in the lounge mention the fact that this stuff has also been showing up on buildings around town. While this discussion is going on, the librarian says that she picked up some hard copy dropped beside one of the computers that looks like it might be about some outfit that labels itself “Growth and Development” and its contents seem to be directed toward some kid with the computer screen name “Deaddog…..
Using the SARA model, please construct a brief written plan about how you will scan, analyze, respond, and assess the scenario.
The problem is unpleasant paint graffiti on the school wall and some hard copies seemed to be targeting a kid with a screen name “DEADDOG”. The group seems to target a kid in school. What are the times and locations? The location is the Hometown High school and incident seemed to happened around early morning before school opened. How did this come to your attention? The school has reported the weird activities in school. Who is affected by this problem? Direct victims : kid in school who has shifted from Detroit, school management. Indirect victims: all school kids, teachers. Suspects: Group known as “ Growth and Development” “G” and “D”. Witnesses: librarian, school teachers, businesses. Are there environmental concerns? Not directly but defacing the wall can be a concern to school management. What is being done or has been done to solve the problem? A school meeting has been called to discuss the problem. Is this a police issue? In what way? Who else should be involved? It is police issue as follows: The wall has been defaced. The librarian suspects some wrongdoing by a group known as “ Growth and Development”
What information would be useful to have in order to effectively solve this problem? The useful information is as follows: Hard copies found by the librarian. New kid in school and his connection with the case. Tagging a kid by the name of “Deaddog” by the group known as “G” and “D”. How will you obtain this information? I will obtain this information as follows: talking to school teachers and particularly the librarian. Talking to the new kid and any friends he has made. Taking the hard copies. Analyzing similarities in graffiti’s around town. Did you interview all of the concerned parties? Yes, all concerned parties have been interviewed and are being monitored by the police for similarities in the activities of the group. Did you discuss the issue with other officers? The case will be discussed with only some officers who seem to be concerned with the case or who know of a similar incident (James & Gilliland, 2017). Did you collect data from both public and private sources? The data will be collected online from the computer and from both public and private sources. What are your short- and long-term goals? Short term goal will be identifying the possible suspects and the reason behind this act of defacing walls and tagging or threatening kids. Long term goal would be to find the culprit or the group and put an end to their harmful activities. Other personal observations: such activity has been reported in other parts of the town too. This activity began after a new kid joined the school.
What level of problem-solving are you hoping to achieve?. Eliminate the problem. Reduce the occurrences of the problem. Reduce the amount of harm done. Remove the problem from police consideration. I am hoping to eliminate the problem by interviewing the teachers, kids, and security personnel and asked about the problem in detail. Similar incidents in other schools will be checked from other schools. The parents of the new kid will be interrogated. The new kid will be interrogated. The trend of the activity and any similarities will be identified. A computer expert will be used to track the computer used for tagging purposes (Jitendra, 2020). The address of computer will be identified and visited by me. I would need the help of the following people: school teachers, the new kid, his friends, librarian, school security. How long will this response take? The response will take around 24 hours the time required to find a computer expert and then follow up with the address and tracking of the culprits. How will you test to find out whether your response was effective? The response will be effective if the culprits are found and the activities of wall defacing come to a stop.
Maintain rapport with the original complainant (if there was one) in order to remain informed about any changes in the problem. Maintain contact with the agencies that are assisting in problem-solving efforts. Compare crime and calls-for-service statistics for before, during and after the incident (Teasdale, 2019). Compare residents’/neighbors’ attitudes towards the problem before, during
and after the intervention. Did you reach the level you were hoping for? Yes, the level of eliminating the problem is reached by tracking the culprits and bringing the matter in the open. The culprit’s minors or otherwise will be punished accordingly. What are some of the positive outcomes/side-effects of your response?
The culprits are brought to task and such activity will be discontinued.
What are some of the negative outcomes/side-effects of your response?
There will be fear in the mind of school children who might be psychologically affected by the incident.
Are additional resources still needed?
The additional resources are required for following: Vigilant neighborhood groups to avoid reoccurrence. Guidance to children to report any untoward activity to the school immediately. What can be done to make the project more successful/effective? The project can be made more effective by making groups in school who will monitor unpleasant or unusual behavior in school to prevent such actions in future.
