The purpose of this assignment is to allow you to interpret and analyze current
issues from an academic perspective, make theoretical applications, and offer solutions for
further research, policy, or interventions to address the issues. You are also tested on your ability
to synthesize and summarize a complete response to a complex issue. The assignment requires
that you identify a current event that implicates “race” or “ethnicity” and analyze the event using
the theories, concepts, themes, or readings in the course.
-You are to find any current event (news items, videos, debates, commentary) that addresses the
issue of race or ethnic inequality. The event should not be academic unless it is publicized to a
wide audience. The event must be posted within the last six (6) months. You can search through
Google, or links to some of the main news websites. Your chosen event can be from any country
in the world (but you must provide a reference to the source of the article/event on which our
commentary is based).
