It does not matter if you have never taught before or have a 25-year teaching career; every child you encounter is different in where they are, where they are going, and how they will get there. You will be helping to make the decisions to help them succeed. This module will discuss several strategies you can use to assist in meeting your students’ diverse needs.
Upon successful completion of this discussion, you will be able to:
Differentiate strategies in several ways.
Background Information
If you can recall, you learned about Universal Design for Learning, Response to Intervention, and Differentiation in EDUT-563.
“Universal Design for Learning” is to represent information in different formats, which activates different parts of the brain to allow students to approach learning tasks and demonstrate what they know in different ways and to offer options that engage students and keep them interested.
“Response to Intervention” is a three-step research-based program that puts in place processes for helping students, then gathers data to see the impact of the intervention.
“Differentiating Instruction” means what it sounds like – you teach to your student’s strengths while minimizing their weaknesses.
