Overview
You will write a five-page minimum research paper on the human infectious disease Malaria-Plasmodium spp. Infectious diseases are caused by pathogenic microorganisms, such as bacteria, viruses, parasites, or fungi; the diseases can spread, directly or indirectly, from one person to another (WHO, 2013).
Instructions
Step 1:
Finding Resources/References- The final page of the paper will consist of a reference page that matches your in-text citations.
You MUST have at least 3 references for your paper:
1 book (it can be your textbook or another book)
1 source MUST be a peer-reviewed scientific journal article
1 source can be of your choosing (additional article or book; online website)
Be sure that you are using scholarly credible sources (NO Wikipedia or WebMD, etc.). In fact, the ONLY ACCEPTABLE online website sources are the WHO and CDC.
You MUST summarize or paraphrase all information and cite it correctly within the body of the paper. No direct quotes allowed!!! Plagiarism will be rewarded a grade of “0.” –do NOT quote. The body of your paper must be properly cited.
Be sure that you provide the following information for each of your source: source title, author(s), year of publication, type of publication (book, article, etc), website (if applicable). While 3 sources are REQUIRED, you may have more than that.
Step 2: APA Citations–
The research paper and citations need to be formatted using APA 7th edition guidelines. There will be some differences in your paper from APA format:

Now that you have reviewed the APA formatting guidelines, take your approved resources and references and type them according to the APA standards. You will need to provide the correct reference citation as well as in-text citation you will use in your paper when prompted.
The research paper will be a total of five pages minimum. It is suggested that you DO NOT include images (images, figures, charts, graphs, etc.). Your research paper should be formatted according to APA standards with the exception of the title page and omission of an abstract.

The paper must be typed in Times New Roman font size 12 using black ink double-spaced with 1 inch margins. DO NOT use any larger or fancy font anywhere in the paper. Show typed headers for the Introduction, Pathogenesis, Symptoms, Treatments or Cures ensuring they are embedded appropriately into the paper following the APA guidelines. Consult the grading rubric for ideas concerning what information needs to be included within each section of the paper.
TITLE PAGE:
The title page will be the only page NOT formatted according to APA guidelines. The title page should include a running header (no page number on title page), the title of the paper should be centered on the page, and the following information should be placed in the bottom right-hand corner (right-justified) of the title page:

BODY OF PAPER CONTENT:
The body of your paper must include an Introduction and information on the pathogenesis, symptoms, and treatments or cures of malaria. These categories should appear as headers in your paper. You do NOT need to include an Abstract.
Introduction: The introduction of your paper needs to begin by describing the condition or disease being investigated. To accomplish this you should develop background information summarizing prior research or important information about the condition/disease including a history of the infectious disease and current statistics on prevalence.
Pathogenesis: This section of your paper should include the etiology of the condition, but more importantly, the pathogenesis of the condition. Give detailed, thorough explanations answering the how, when, where, and why the condition causes illness/ infection. Is the condition caused by a virus, bacteria, protozoan, fungus, etc.? Explain the pathogenesis and biochemistry (genetic nature of viruses) of how the pathogen causes disease and the specific location. This is when you talk about virulence factors, general nature of the organism (gram staining, cell shape/grouping, etc.), and life cycles.
Symptoms: Give specific symptoms associated with the condition/diseases. Also provide thorough explanations of how these symptoms arise (this should tie back to pathogenesis). It is unacceptable to present a list of symptoms and treatments for a disease. It is not enough to say a disease is an autoimmune disease. Explain how the components of the immune system interact with the cells and tissues at issue is what counts. Describe how the disease is diagnosed and distinguished from other similar diseases.
Treatments & Cures: Here you should discuss all possible preventions (i.e. vaccines) and treatments (i.e. medications) of the condition/disease including supportive treatments for alleviating symptoms (i.e. medications, ORT, cold compress, etc).
REFERENCE PAGE:
The reference page should be done according to APA guidelines. All references listed on your reference page should have been approved prior to submission, if you have failed to do this it may reflect in your grade so be sure to get all sources approved before using them! All entries on the reference page should be cited in the text at least once. All in-text citations should follow APA guidelines as well. All entries on reference page should appear in alphabetical order according to the author’s last name. Failure to include in-text citations will be considered an indication of plagiarism. –do NOT quote.
