“The task for the final paper is to identify a social phenomenon that interests you, and then, to write a paper that includes testable ideas for how to approach the study of that phenomenon as a social psychologist. The inspiration for this paper can come from a variety of different sources, including articles in the popular press/media (newspapers or magazines), or in a popular movie/film, etc. You will be charged with conducting a literature review, posing a research question, coming up with key variables that can be measured, developing a hypothesis, and describing one way you could test your hypothesis using any of the research methods we have discussed in class. “.
ABSTRACT:
The social climate of the world is becoming increasingly tolerant towards people in the LGBTQ+
community. However, despite lawmakers passing more and more laws into the government that
protect LGBTQ+ people, there continues to be a stigma against them actually existing and being
openly queer in everyday life. This stigma creates strain on people in the LGBTQ+ community,
namely within their relationships (Doyle et. al., 2015). In cases where people were asked to be
empathetic to the plight of those in communities such as the LGBTQ+ community, there was
actually an increase in negative attitudes toward said groups (Mooijman et. al., 2016). The
incidence of negative attitudes towards people in the LGBTQ+ community takes a toll on their
relationships, both platonic and romantic.
