PAPER GUIDELINES
Your final paper will be a research proposal.
You have a limit of 2,500 words, which includes all introductory and discussion material in the main text, any footnotes, acknowledgments, and appendices; Method and Projected Results sections and reference list.
You will need to use a minimum of 3 articles as references, all which should be empirical papers that you’ve read for this class. At least one article should be used in the intro. The others can provide inspiration for methods, materials, etc.

Abstract
No abstract needed
Introduction
1. State the general question(s) you are asking.
2. Describe how at least one of the articles that you’ve read for class has shed some light on this question/topic.
3. State your hypothesis/hypotheses and explicate how examining it/them would contribute to the topic above and beyond the article/s you’ve just discussed.
4. Describe your methodological approach and projected findings.
5. End with a “why care” statement – in what ways would your findings be important?
Mock Methods (you do NOT need to collect data)
Participants: describe your ideal sample.
Design [e.g., a 4×2 Between-subjects ANOVA with gender (male, female, FTM, MTF) and stereotype threat (threat versus no-threat) as the independent variables and math performance as the dependent variable).
Materials (if you are using questionnaires, make sure to mention them).
Procedure: describe exactly what your participants go through and include your manipulation.
(Make sure to use at least at least one of the articles that you’ve read for class, by building on its methodology/materials).
Mock Results
Run analyses on made-up data (make sure to state that your data are made up) and provide a graph/table with the projected descriptive statistics. I prefer graphs to be in Excel.
Discussion
1. Describe your study’s mock/projected findings in 1-2 sentences and what their main contribution is.
2. Discuss what the limitations of your study are (include at least 3 limitations).
3. Describe Future Directions — What study should be run next to address the limitations you’ve mentioned?
4. State who could benefit from your study’s projected findings and why.
5. End with the big picture.
Final Paper Outline
Introduction
My big question(s) is/are:
These are references of psychological research that speak DIRECTLY to the question (e.g., Peterson 2017):
Reference 1 (main finding)
Reference 2 (main finding)
Etc.
Here’s a brief description of my methodological approach:
These are my experimental hypotheses (make sure to explicate the IVs and DVs):
This is what the contribution of my study is, beyond what’s known already:
Mock Methods
My population is this: ______________, so my sample is this: ______________.
My design is: [e.g., a 4×2 Between-subjects ANOVA with gender (cis male, cis female, trans male, trans female) and stereotype threat (threat versus no-threat) as the independent variables and math performance as the dependent variable.)
My materials are: (If you are using questionnaires, make sure to mention them and give a few example items.)
Procedure: i.e., This is exactly what my participants will go through:
Mock Results (you do NOT need to collect data)
Here are a few tables with descriptive statistics (means and standard deviations) or, preferably, here are a few graphs with hypothesized descriptive statistics (bar graphs, histograms or polygons).
Discussion
I “found” that:
The limitations are:
Limitation 1:
Limitation 2:
Limitation 3:
Future Directions — This study/these studies should be run next in order to address the above limitations:
Research and/or real-life implications:
