Review literary texts, lectures, slides, handouts and other information on the Modern and Post-modern periods closely! Use two of the literary works and their authors from these periods and write an essay on how these works:
Reflect the Modern and/or Post-modern period (one work from EACH) using
SPECIFIC brief, direct quotations to support the points you make;
Describe how these works are different from each other and from the time periods that precede them, again, using specific examples to support your points;
Analyze and defend what is responsible for the changes in the literature for both the Modern and subsequent Post-modern periods.
USE ONLY MATERIALS PROVIDED! BE SURE to cite the sources for the materials you use—make sure to refer to the using sources/research handout in the course materials to help you cite things properly! You must cite PARENTHETICALLY as you go as well as construct a Works Cited page at the end.
PAY CLOSE ATTENTION to editing your writing, making sure to avoid pronouns (I, she, he, this, that, hers, theirs etc.—use NOUNS as subjects for specificity and good writing).
This formal essay should be 3 to 4 pages in length.
