For this week’s assignment we will be looking at episode 3. This is wehere things get exciting!!! John Adams is sent to France to negotiate a treaty of amity and commerece with the French. To that end, answer the following questions:
1.What was agreed (or not agreed) upon John Adams’ arrival? Was the state of the relations with France to his satisfaction? Did he find the state of diplomatic relations rigouros or lacking, and why?
2. What was the motivation for France to assist the colonies, and what was the ectent of their support?
3. After departing the Holland, Adams went in pursuit of further support. What was the reception he received, and what was the response of the Dutch, and what were the reason given for their reply?
4. What of the family sacrifices being made by the Adams family (John Adams to France, leaving Abigail with children, then John Quincy Adams to Russia)? What paralelles can be made of women and the role of women in WW1 and WW2?
