The thesis statement should be a concise answer to the question posed and should establish relationships. The thesis should be placed at or near the end of an introductory paragraph that presents a historical context for the thesis. Once the thesis is established the arguments supporting

it should be laid out in a logical, coherent way. Each supporting point will normally involve a topic sentence stating the point and perhaps relating it to the point before. Specific examples that are in turn related to the topic sentence should follow this up. A brief recapitulation of the entire argument should conclude the essay. A works cited page is required, and all citations should be in the University of Chicago (Turabian) foot-note style.
