Voting rights legislation should be passed in Texas. Recently, Texas has taken many strides toward weakening voting rights instead of making them stronger. Texas politicians have redrawn district lines, as they do. The purpose is so that each district has the power to vote and elect representatives who will represent their voices on the map. Power is taken from people of color when Congress and the Texas House shrink the number of districts in which eligible Hispanic and Black voters can realistically sway election outcomes. It is unfair to this community when 95% of the population gained since 2010 have been people of color, almost half of that percentage being Hispanic (Ura).
