Y‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍ou are asked to create a presentation that utilises an oral resource (e.g. a spoken poem, a music video, a short film, performance poetry etc) to initiate a critical discussion. The intended audience are grade 6, Vietnamese learners aged 11 – 12. The students attend an International School and are English language learners. I teach them English and Social Studies/Geography. You have to adopt a theoretical framework that underpins what you do – for example, the Socratic elements that underpin Paideia, or a social constructivist approach which would be present in a dialogic classroom. A PowerPoint, should be used with the first slide introducing the resource that will prom‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍pt discussion, and provide a link to the oral resource, or embed it into the presentation. The rest of your slides should make clear how the activity is structured to give opportunities for discussion. This might include your chosen activities, appropriate questions that would encourage participation and engagement, and potential outcomes. We would expect the presentation to include between 5 to 7 slides, with the final slide outlining your reference list. You could choose to use the ‘Notes’ section of the slides to further clarify your points, or to provide additional information. Importantly, remember, you need to draw on literature to underpin and support your ar‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍gument.
