Over the course we have looked at the history, skills, and training skills of CRM, but how do you know if CRM is part of an organizations culture? How do you evaluate CRM? The cultural change of flying did not happen overnight. How long do you think it takes to change a culture in aviation? Before the 1970s the First Officer was graded his ability to sit in the seat and not say anything to the Captain, even if he/she was making mistake. Today, even the flight attendants are encouraged to speak up if something doesn’t feel right. Example: Northwest Airlines Flight 188 landed at Minneapolis over an hour late because they claimed to be distracted by their iPads.
