You have been selected for a Brugger-Adams Foundation scholarship to assess European sustainable housing examples. The foundation pays your complete expenses to study a European site for a semester! You may choose between sites at: Greenwich Millennium Village, BedZed, Vaubon, or BoO1 (not to worry about going to Germany or Sweden, the natives understand that you are an American and will speak English for you). It is important for the B-A Foundation that you immerse yourself totally in this experience and thoroughly analyze the housing development. There is, of course, a catch to this scholarship. The B-A Foundation will expect you to write papers before, during, and after your visit (but for this assignment, you only need to write the before paper). You are asked to evaluate a number of factors as part of this program. These include: Architecture The layout of the buildings Integration of the sustainable community with the rest of the area Planning Performance – does this place really work as a sustainable community Before leaving for the community that you choose, you are asked to write a thorough assessment of your expectations and your research before heading out. This is a challenging assignment. You need to consider who you are – background and experience, as you plan for this program. You need to do as much research as possible (from course materials and internet/library sources) about your selected destination.
