When it comes to event design and decor, the most important thing to keep in mind is how all of your items tie together. Each piece should compliment the next, creating one large cohesive event design. Think of it like a chain, each piece must match for the chain to look uniform. One different piece that doesn’t fit will stick out like a sore thumb and throw off the look of the entire piece.
When working in event design and decor, be creative and have fun with it. You can follow the trends but I encourage you to also be a trendsetter. Being a trendsetter has never been so easy as it is in this day and age of social media. Share your creative ideas on your favourite social media platforms. Before you know it, you’ll have others liking and re-sharing your ideas and even replicating them for their events.
Event design and decor is a significant component of the planning process, it is also one of the most rewarding creative processes in event planning. The second part of this module will include an opportunity to participate in an event design and decor lab.
For this assignment, you will participate in a decor lab where you will have the opportunity to design and build a piece of event decor of your choice.
The purpose of this assignment is to:
Experience event décor first hand
Apply the elements of design in the creation of a piece of event décor
Create a piece of event décor that is cohesive and complimentary of the overall event theme
In this assignment, you will work towards accomplishing the following course learning outcomes:
Describe the various resources required to successfully implement an event using industry appropriate terms.
Design a décor piece that meets both industry best practices and internationalization considerations.
Evaluate event documents related to resources and logistics for their accuracy and ability in successfully supporting the execution of an event.
For this assignment, you will participate in a décor lab where you will have the opportunity to design and build a piece of event décor of your choice.
Once you have completed the Décor Module and created your piece of event décor, you will need to:
Take several pictures of your event décor piece. Be sure to capture various angles.
Write 1 paragraph describing the piece of décor and the overall theme of the event it is meant to be used in.
Write 1 paragraph describing the various elements of design, as learned in the module that you incorporated into the décor piece.
For this assignment, you will be graded on the following criteria:
Completion of the décor module 10 points
Cohesiveness and functionality of the décor item within the event setting 20 points
Elements of design used in the design of the décor item 20 points
Inclusion of images of the décor piece 10 points
Total possible points = 60 points
