The purpose of the Final Project is to show your understanding of the basic statistical concepts covered in the course and demonstrate your ability to critically review the methods and results of published statistical analyses. The final project comprises two parts. In Part A you will select a research article in a topic of interest to you that includes statistical research data. Part B consists of three essays on topics covered in the eight units, including basic descriptive statistics, tests of differences, and tests of relationships.
Part A: In the first part of the final project, you will identify and critically evaluate a quantitative research article based on a topic of interest related to your field of study. Search for an article of a quantitative research study that includes statistical analyses. You might want to consider the following keywords: “correlation”, “t-tests”, “ANOVA”, or “regression analyses”. The article must be peer-reviewed and published within the last ten years.
From your selected article, write a 3-4 page paper. This process of writing this paper will allow you to apply the concepts learned throughout the course in the interpretation of quantitative research.
In your paper, be sure to:
Describe the research question(s) and/or hypothesis (es)
Verify the researchers utilized statistical analyses covered in the course.
Include the general research design, the statistical approaches used, the variables included, the hypothesis (es) proposed, and a description of how the researchers interpreted the results.
Evaluate the design of the study, including the sample, procedures, choice of analyses, research questions, and hypotheses.
Write a conclusion section that considers other statistical approaches that could have been used and, if appropriate, suggest alternative interpretations of the results.
Note any limitations or other studies that could follow the one you are reviewing.
Part B: In the second part of this assignment, you will write 3 essays. The length of each essay should be one page, double-spaced. Utilize the document titled “MTH 2010 – Final Project Part B.pdf” to find the prompts for all 3 essays.
