This is an opportunity for the students to examine and apply the information they have learnt
in the class. The research paper is based on the proposal you have submitted at the beginning
of the term. The research paper should be between 7 to 8 pages. At least 10 scholarly
references are expected, at least 6 of them peer reviewed

Please choose ONE topic from the following list:
1. Climate change: Climate has been an ever-changing natural system since the history of
planet. Discuss why the current changes in Earth’s climate is different from the past
changes? Examine the different causes and solutions to the current climate change.
2. Anthropocene versus Holocene: What are the controversies in naming the present
Holocene as Anthropocene epoch? What are the major TWO environmental changes
witnessed in the so-called Anthropocene epoch? What are the solutions to these dramatic
changes for the sustainability of future generations?
3. Evidence for environmental changes: How are the geological timescale defined? What
kind of evidence do scientists rely upon for piecing together the information about Earth’s
history? Why is it important to learn and understand about Earth’s history?
