Technical Paper – Structure and Key Elements
1) Short Intro to the problem (like you did in Proposal) >> tracking on social media, addiction, fake truths etc. This problem will be in direct relation to the technical information given in the body of the essay. Elements: give background and context >> the way we use social platforms and how they affect us. [Tr.] Introduce your subject: the app you will talk about, associated problem, technical issues that you will focus on. Define the purpose of the investigation and your paper. Briefly outline overall approach and objective.
2) Body. Please follow the P structure that has: mini thesis/clear statement + explanation (clarifying that statement) + evidence and examples, your support + conclusion (bringing points together) and transition to the next P (these can be the same sentence)
In body paragraphs, give technical information and descriiption of your chosen technical aspect >> algorithm, process (data mining, tracking), ranking. This will include clear definitions and explanations and support from your sources.
One of your goals is to give reader a “mental model” of how the technology works. Group facts into a pattern (from basic to more complex, from small (detailed) to large (general) or vice versa, chronological, spatial). You can use organizing tools such as listing (first, second, next), causal relations (therefore, because of, resulting in), descriiption (for example, in particular, such as) or problem-solution (in response to, as a solution, to answer the question).
This will be the bulk of your paper.
3) Conclusion: summary of your findings • What are the key findings? What does your descriiption capture/show? – How does your study/essay contribute to the objective stated in your introduction?
Other Elements:
• Title
The title is what draws reader to your work – Reveals the topic of the paper – Should include keywords about the project • Make the title interesting and attractive
• Objective
The objective of the paper is the reason given for writing the paper. By stating your objective, you’re telling the reader exactly what you’re hoping to accomplish (demonstrate, learn, or illustrate) in your essay.
• Technical writing
Technical writing encompasses all documentation of complex technical processes. Its goal is to ensure readers’ understanding of the information. One of the main reasons why technical writing might be bad is lack of research.
• Technical information
“Technical information” refers to written materials whose function is to provide the reader with factual information. Readers’ use of information is perhaps the most apparent of the differences between technical and nontechnical communications. Technical writers need to decide which information the reader needs to know and understand, as clearly as possible.
