Students will write an eight (8) to ten (10) page research paper on a topic of their
choice that summarizes a new social, cultural, political, or artistic movement or trend that is taking
place in African or its Diaspora. Papers should address the historical origins of these movements,
their main purveyors and advocates, the guiding philosophies, and the reasons behind their
development. They should also explain the resources and methods that the movement deploys, and
how they are influencing the lives of people of African descent and the world at large today. While
students are free to propose topics of their own choice, the following topics provide ample room
for analysis.
