Students will write a research paper that investigates a criminological question

Students will write a research paper that investigates a criminological question currently facing the criminal justice system. There are multiple ways to conduct such an investigation, but students typically take one of the following approaches. First is an examination of the crime data and research on a particular behavior (e.g., terrorism, burglary, workplace violence) that determines what theory offers the most effective explanation for the crime. A second option could be assessing the state of a specific theory of criminology by reviewing several pieces of scholarship to determine how well the theory explains crime. The research project can take several other forms. Students should discuss their ideas with the professor to ensure that they are meeting the expectations of the assignment.
