Students will have to prepare individually a written assignment on a chosen area

Students will have to prepare individually a written assignment on a chosen area of HRM and develop and apply both theoretical and practical knowledge of the given topic area. The possible topics for the individual assignment are the following:<
<
<
<
<
First the students have to develop a theoretical knowledge related to their chosen topic area:<
<
<
<
· What are the most important theoretical concepts and methods to be known? (Source: textbook)<
<
<
<
The second step is to get an insight into what are the current innovations and ethical problems related to the chosen topic for HR professionals working in the field. For this purpose, student will need to review HR related professional weeklies, monthlies, and academic journals. Based on their secondary research, students should be able to address the following issues:<
<
<
<
· What are the current innovations in the chosen HR field? How could they be linked to the basic concepts, methods of the topic? (Source: HR related professional weeklies, monthlies, and academic journals)<
<
· What type of ethical problems might occur related to the application of the chosen HR field, and why do you think they occur? (Source: textbook, HR related professional weeklies, monthlies, and academic journals)<
<
<
<
The third step of the assignment reflects on how companies can evaluate their performance in the chosen HR field. For this purpose, students will need to address the following question:<
<
<
<
· How can a company evaluate the effectiveness (how well it works, produces the desired outcome) and efficiency (level of cost-effectiveness) of the chosen HR area? Give five examples of effective and/or efficient practices (good practices) in the chosen HR field and explain why they are effective and/or efficient practices (good practices). (Source: textbook, HR related professional weeklies, monthlies, and academic journals)<
<
<
<
The forth step involves that students search for a case study related to their topic. It can be from any HRM textbook or Internet source. The chosen case study should be analysed, on the one hand, based on 4 standard questions as will be done in class, AND, on the other hand, those 2-3 questions listed below the case study. In case the chosen case study does not have listed questions at the end, students will need to formulate these by themselves. The standard questions are the following:<
<
<
<
Give a short summary of the case.<
Who are the stakeholders involved in the case and what are their interests?<
Identify the general HRM problem(s)/challenge(s)/issue(s) of the case.<
What are the most important theoretical concepts linked to the case? Explain the concepts and their relevance to the case.<
The text of the case study should be in the Appendix of the assignment. In the main text body, students should only insert their analysis of the case study.<
<
Based on the above, students have to prepare their written assignment with the following structure:<
<
<
<
· Introduction (Aims and objectives of the assignment, task description) (250 word)<
<
· Most important theoretical concepts and methods of the HR field (500 words)<
<
· Current innovations of the HR field and their link to the most important theoretical concepts (250 words)<
<
· Potential ethical problems related to the chosen HR field and why they occur (250 words)<
<
· Evaluating the effectiveness/efficiency of practices in the given HR field (250 words)<
<
· Case study analysis (750 words)<
<
· Conclusions (on what are the major success factors to manage effectively the chosen HR field) (250 words)<
<
· References<
<
· Appendix with case study text<
<
<
<
The reference list should contain as a minimum requirement 10 items:<
<
· Textbook chapter<
<
· Case study<
<
· 5 articles from HR related professional weeklies, monthlies<
<
· 3 HR related academic journal articles
