Speeding is the top traffic offence in Singapore. In 2020, the deaths resulting from speeding-related accidents were double that caused by drink-driving accidents. In the amendments to
the Road Traffic Act in 2021, which took effect from 29 to 30 June 2021, specific measures
were introduced to improve road safety. Many factors contribute to speeding and speeding-related accidents. Such factors include the drivers running late to work, risky and aggressive
driving behaviours (e.g., keeping too close to the car in front or road rage), driver
complacence about the dangers and consequences of speeding, and illegal road racing.
