In the wake of the 2017 Charlottesville, VA protests, Maryland Governor Larry Hogan reversed his earlier position on the statue of former Supreme Court Chief Justice Roger Taney and ordered its removal from Annapolis. Taney, the same justice who provided the majority opinion for the notorious Dred Scott decision sat in seemingly undisturbed thought outside of the Maryland State House for over a 100 years. And while the statue’s overnight removal did draw some crowds, it was relatively uneventful.
