HOW TO WORK ON THIS ASSIGNMENT (EXAMPLE ESSAY / DRAFT)

Introduction:
Social welfare must include two essential components: healthcare and education. Healthcare is a crucial component of a person’s well-being, whilst education is seen as a way out of poverty. However, several disparities within these sectors influence their quality and accessibility. Regarding healthcare and education in the US, this essay will address five discussion questions.

Education disparities based on race and class: Education is frequently considered as a way to achieve upward social mobility. This assumption is not always true, though, as some people’s possibilities are hampered by racial and economic inequality. For instance, compared to pupils from wealthy households, those from low-income families are less likely to have access to high-quality education. They are more likely to enroll in schools with fewer resources, which hurts academic success (Andersen & Taylor, 2020). Additionally, there are considerable racial differences in the standard of schooling. The National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) reports that Black and Hispanic pupils are more likely than their White counterparts to attend schools with greater poverty rates and less qualified teachers (Andersen & Taylor, 2020).

Relationship between education and social mobility: The ability to migrate from one social class to another is regarded to be a key component of social mobility. Education gives people the knowledge and abilities needed for greater employment prospects and income. According to studies, people with higher education levels earn more money than those who don’t (Andersen & Taylor, 2020). Additionally, as education gives people the chance to enter occupations with better social status, it can also have an impact on social status.

The best way to improve American schools is with a multifaceted strategy. Dealing with the issue of insufficient funding for schools in low-income communities is one of the solutions. Schools in these locations frequently have fewer resources, which hurts educational outcomes. The outcomes of education can be improved by addressing this issue by increasing financing for such schools. The curriculum can also be changed to ensure that it supports diversity and is inclusive. To encourage diversity in schools, teachers can also receive training in cultural competence (Andersen & Taylor, 2020).

The healthcare system in the US is predominantly organized on a social basis through the use of for-profit institutions, insurance providers, and medical professionals. Through initiatives like Medicare, Medicaid, and the Affordable Care Act (ACA), the government also provides healthcare services. Due to financial limitations, not everyone in the US has access to healthcare, which is regarded as expensive (Andersen & Taylor, 2020).

Principal concepts in healthcare reform: Improving access to high-quality healthcare for everyone is the goal of healthcare reform. A healthcare reform that attempted to improve access to medical treatments is the Affordable Care Act (ACA). The ACA expanded healthcare coverage to young adults and allowed those with pre-existing diseases to acquire healthcare insurance. Increasing healthcare coverage for all people, regardless of their financial situation, and lowering healthcare prices are other suggestions for healthcare reform (Andersen & Taylor, 2020).

In conclusion, social well-being is crucially dependent on healthcare and education. However, access to high-quality healthcare and education is hampered by racial and economic disparities. A multifaceted strategy is needed to solve these problems, one that addresses the issue of insufficient school funding as well as expanding access to high-quality healthcare services. Healthcare reforms like the ACA can also increase access to medical services.
