Read all both poems below and write an 8 to 12 sentence discussion contrasting their repeated vowel sounds. What I see is that the first poem, about a vacation in the Greek island Hydra, has a lot of intense vowels, just about one every line, especially when talking about the bright piercing reflections of sunlight. In contrast, “Swan” seems to have more lower-pitched vowel sounds and many long vowels. Can you argue that the contrasting vowel sounds actually go well with the different subject matters of the poems? Make sure to bring in at least 6 examples and cite the line for each one, as in (Bar-Nadav l. 12-13) or (Askew l. 21). Don’t forget that you have to cite even when you paraphrase. If you notice other vowel sounds than the ones I’ve brought up, feel free to use those. Just make that you are talking about a pattern of sounds in each poem.
When discussing sounds, make sure to quote the word or words and mention the letter you are referring to, as in the high-pitched “i” sound in the word “bite” (Askew l. 12).
Then after you post, make sure to comment on at least two of your classmate’s’ posts in at least four detailed sentences.
