1) Conflict
The two variables that I chose are (American) Preparation and planning skill vs. (Chinese) Persistence and determination as number one in order of importance. These variables are at the opposite end of the spectrum and would affect negotiations based on the perceived ulterior motives of the other. For example, “asserting power, superiority, advantage, or control over the course of the negotiations may be a motive wrapped up in certain cultural behaviors” (LeBaron, 2003), as carried out by Americans. Who may also see soft skill approaches as feminine or weak verses Chinese who demonstrate “persistence and determination and the ability to win respect and confidence of the opponent as the two most important skills, with planning and preparation skills as third” (Roloff, Putnam & Anastasiou, 2003). Both parties would need to be careful not to perceive the others cultural ideas of initial negotiations in a negative view. For example, the Chinese may potentially perceive the American negotiator as aggressive and unconcerned with developing trust being overly concerned over their plans vs trust. Both parties would need to use their soft skills and cultural understandings. However, Americans identifying the inclusion of the past as “circular time” may not be appropriate when assuming it is an indigenous concept possibly attached to religious beliefs verse the other party just remembering the past violations and learning from the negative experiences. That idea of applying your concepts to others needs to be curtailed and stay focused on the end result. This is possibly why Chinese put being persistence and determination ahead of preparations & planning. One may not go along with your “plans” if they do not trust you. This type of research may provide an advantage to negotiating with other nations / peoples of the Earth. Assisting the negotiator with what the other considers important and if needed follow suit.
2) Danette
For the past 14 years I have worked in education in the public school system. I’ve the need for young people to have a place where they can get the skills of college preparation to navigate college and vocational readiness. Many of these young people also need individuals that can help to promote self esteem for their further soci-emotional growth. I would also like to have teachers come into my facility to help provide academic tutoring and or mentoring to ensure these young people graduate from high school. The Liberty County School is is the ranked the 50th in the state of Georgia with a graduation r5ate of 88%(Publicschoolreview,2021). This school system is a title1 school district with a 76% black student population(Publicschoolreview,2021).
3) Shuntale
The reasons I am focused on this focus area is because I have a passion for helping those who are innocent and struggling to advocate for themselves. I want to provide the aide, guidance and support that adolescents need. I believe that with the right person or people in their lives, then their lives can be successful just like the next. I will be pursing this focus area effectively by attending different low- income neighborhoods, low rate schools, and shelters. My staff and I would service the local communities to gather any information and opportunities to help all the surrounding kids. My goal is to help in many ways possible. I do know that I am not going to be able to save every kid but I want to be there for as many as possible.
