Option 1: So You’re Thinking About Dance….Now Do it! 1 hour to MOVE.
You’ve been thinking about dance. Now go out and do it for at least one hour! Find a movement experience that IS NEW to you–something you have never done before. This must be an online virtual experience due to pandemic. Maybe you’ve always wanted to learn how to salsa, or zumba, or tai chi, or yoga, or pilates…. you get the idea. Any movement experience is okay, as long as you’ve never tried it before. Go out there and try something. AFTER you have tried the experience, write a 3-5 page reaction to the event and submit it here.
Include URL of website, introduction, selection process, expectations, description of your experience including physical demand, connection to class content, reflection

Option 2: Create a 60-second Dance Film with your cell phone
and post it here (do NOT email me a file). You may post a link to youtube (unlisted). The main element of your film must be movement. This does not mean that you are in the film, necessarily (or that movement must be dance). Please note that this should not be a video of you dancing in your room — it should be representative of a carefully prepared mini film, with movement as its theme, not simply a dance. Here are some examples of dance films if you are unclear.
Write a process paper 2-3 pages describing your creative process including your vision, how this relates to what you have been learning in class, obstacles you encountered, production elements (sound, setting, camera angle, etc.), and reflection about what you learned during this process.

Option 3: (provided you have not already done this activity) Learn movement from Belgium choreographer, Anne Teresa De Keersmaker and her dancer Samantha van Wissen.
This is movement from a dance called Rosas danst Rosas, choreographed 30 years ago. This Choreography has been staged all over the world and now it’s your turn. Learn the movements from this tutorial and post a link to your version of it here. Write a 2-3 page observation and reflection paper describing the ways in which De Keersmaker’s invitation for the public to learn her dance connects to what you have learned in this class. This could include ownership of dance, copyright, the difference between commercial dance and “art” dance, etc. What is the social significance of De Keersmaker making this public? The paper should describe your experience learning and why you chose this particular assignment over the others.
Rubric:
Video (completion of all movements, working video link, full engagement in activity ) 70%,
Written Observations and Reflection 30%
thorough and thoughtful responses to prompts above) 20%
Structure (organization and flow)10%
Grammar and Conventions 10%
