For your final assignment in this course you will create a “paper production” using one of the plays that we read or watched this semester. You will turn in a comprehensive production concept paper that has the following components. You will be asked to complete some of the work for the discussion board this week but should turn in the whole assignment as laid out below on the 9th.
1. Opening:
a. The Title of Play
b. The Author of Play
2. Director or Producer’s Concept/Vision Statement for the Production (1-2 paragraphs) [What is the play about and what is your production about? You can think of this as a kind of Netflix or TV Guide blurb but with a really clear point of view]
3. Director or Producer research images (include at least 3-5 images that capture the over-all feeling you are going for with this production)
4. Brief Synopsis of the Play (in your own words and at least 2-3 paragraphs)
5. Description of each character and your casting choices with reasoning. (Just a sentence or two to describe each of the characters. For your casting choices- cast from the world- meaning you can cast anyone from yourself, your dad and the guy that works at Starbucks to Rege-Jean Page, Amy Adams and Fred Astaire. They can be living or dead but tell us why you chose them!)
6. Designer’s Vision (in alignment with director/producer vision) Statement for production (1-2 paragraphs written on two of the design areas below) Include design research images for each of the design areas you have chosen.
a. Set Design- description of set design from audience point of view and how it changes through the course of the play to help tell the story
b. Lighting design- description of lighting design from audience point of view and how it changes throughout to help tell the story
c. Costume Design- description of costume design for at least three characters throughout the play and how those costumes change to help tell the story
d. Sound Design- description of sound design throughout the production and how the design evolves to help tell the story
7. Actor’s character analysis for two of the main actors (2-3 paragraphs for each character highlighting what each character’s journey through the story is. Giving special focus to how they have changed in the end of the story from where they began.)
