Here, you will need to locate a news article from an accredited source that has something to do with victimization and discuss its relevance to a topic(s) that is covered within the corresponding week’s reading assignments. Approved news sources include local, state, or national news sources (e.g., The Virginian Pilot, Richmond Times-Dispatch, FOX, CNN, MSN, ABC, NBC, CBS, BBC, NPR, Time, Newsweek, Wall Street Journal).
Your paper must be double-spaced, Times New Roman, 12 point font with one-inch margins. Minimum report length is 1 page and the maximum length is 2 pages of text, excluding references. You must address the following issues in your content analysis:
Include an online link of the story along with your paper.
Briefly summarize the story (approx. 1 paragraph).
Discuss how the story relates to a topic (or topics) discussed in class. Incorporate references to relevant articles/readings where appropriate. In other words, discuss how the stories reflect themes in the class readings (and cite the readings).
Things to think about: How does the story support (or not support) what we’ve covered in our readings? How does the story differ from what you’ve read? How are victims “reflected” in the media? How is the offender portrayed in the article? Did the story miss anything you think should have been covered?
