F‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍or this assignment, you will analyze one of the films we have viewed in class. (Paper length should be at least 3-4 pages double-spaced with a Works Cited page attached). You may but do not have to use secondary sources, such as reviews or related articles, but you must quote and cite these sources and include them on the Works Cited page. Be careful not to plagiarize the writing of your sources. If you plagiarize, you will fail the assignment. I am more interested in reading your original writing and opinions than reading the ideas of critics reviewing your selected film. Description: A film analysis is not a review or summary of the plot and should go deeper into analysis and reaction. The purpose of this assignment is for you to analyze the filmmaking choices used in any of the films we have viewed in class so far this semester. This assignment should analyze the filmmaker’s choices regarding acting, lighting, set, theme and subthemes, screenplay writing (the use of‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍ language choices), and/or cinematography (shot types, camera angles). You can address whichever aspects work best to make the film effective, or you can analyze and explain why you see the film as ineffective or only partially effective. Your analysis should include an introduction, main body of analysis, and a conclusion to tie the paper together. Your analysis should examine several of the following aspects: Describe the film in general terms. What subjects does it cover? Describe the plot and setting. What issues does it raise? What do you see as the main purpose of the film? What are the major theme(s) of the film? Evaluate the film for quality and interest. Comment on the acting, lighting, set, theme and subthemes, screenplay writing (the use of language choices), and/or cinematography (shot types, camera angles) Summarize briefly emphasizing the strengths and weaknesses of the film.
