Each student is required to prepare one news article that relates to each of the four units of study. The article reviewed may not be older than 30 days and must originate from a local news source such as the Los Angeles Times, Daily Tribune, Inland Valley Daily Bulletin, or the electronic versions of these publications.  Articles related to the administration of justice in California are preferred.  International articles will not receive credit. This first assignment needs to cover Chapters 10-12.
Each student will prepare a typewritten review of the article in APA format which summarizes the article and identifies the topic, chapter and page number of the text material related to the article.  The article review should not exceed one typewritten page but summarizes the article sufficiently. All Unit News Articles must be submitted through Turnitin. A plagiarism/similarity check will be done to ensure original work.  Plagiarism percentages are not to exceed 20%. Students are cautioned that high plagiarism percentages may result in a separate academic review. Specific feedback will be provided to the students for all assignments.  An otherwise correctly formatted paper can exceed the plagiarism threshold due to overly quoted material. Papers can be resubmitted in Canvas with any needed corrections up until the due date and time. Points will be deducted for incorrect format other than APA. Late or handwritten work will not be accepted.
