A SWOT analysis is “a tool that may be used to identify an organization’s internal strengths and weaknesses as well as an organization’s external opportunities and threats.”(Cellucci, 2014) Four aspects of business are strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. These aspects ask several important questions which assess a company’s current position before any changes or strategies are decided upon. I chose to analyze the American Heart Association as it holds a special place in my heart.
The American Heart Association is a well known and very important organization. Founded by Paul Dudley White in 1924, the organization was born to improve heart health and reduce lives from cardiovascular disease and stroke. “Heart disease is the No. 1 killer worldwide, and stroke ranks second globally.” (AHA, 2021  ) “More than 800,000 people in the United States die from cardiovascular disease each year.” (CDC, 2021)
Their mission statement is to be a relentless force for a world of longer, healthier lives. They have spent nearly 100 years striving to fulfill those tasks by helping fund lifesaving research and medical breakthroughs. The success stories amidst this healthcare organization are astounding.
An example is 3-year-old Ariel Hernandez. It was learned Ariel had heart issues once she was born, which unfortunately is a common factor with down syndrome patients, which she also has. She had a groundbreaking heart surgery at just 2 years old. The specific procedure had previously only been performed in Brazil. This procedure closed 2 holes and repaired 2 valves all through a small incision under her right arm. Doing amazingly well, she is now a model and heart ambassador. Stories such as Ariel’s are abundant within this organizations successes.
The American Heart Association is in our communities each and every day. They have the Heart Campaign which is their signature fundraising method. You have likely seen these in retailers etc. It is the little red hearts where you write your name on them after donating. There are also heart walks, wear red day, the Heart Ball, and even jump rope for heart. The association educates, makes change, provides resources, and funds research.
My father had his first cardiac event at 40 and has suffered several major heart attacks over the last 30 years. However, research has come a long way in this time and these advancements have prolonged my father’s quality of life and life span. He received a new heart valve, TAVI, a minimally invasive procedure which has him more active than he has been in years. AMA helped make that happen!
The Bible says your actions are a result of what is in your heart. Not the physicality of your heart, but the composition of mind, emotion, and will. While physically our hearts keep up alive, our heart is the entrance and exit of our being. So, while our physical heart keeps us alive physically, the state of our heart belongs to God. Mark 12:30 says, “And you shall love the Lord your God from your whole heart and from your whole soul and from your whole mind and from your whole strength.” (DLNT)

he organization I decided to do my SWOT analysis on is Pfizer. The SWOT analysis will help show their strengths, weakness, opportunities, and threat. “The primary objective of a SWOT analysis is to help organizations develop a full awareness of all the factors involved in making a business decision. This method was created in the 1960s by Albert Humphrey of the Stanford Research Institute, during a study conducted to identify why corporate planning consistently failed. Since its creation, SWOT has become one of the most useful tools for business owners to start and grow their companies’” (schooley, 2019). Pfizer has been in the media a lot recently and they create beneficial vaccinations.
Pfizer is a pharmaceutical company that originated in America. I decided to choose Pfizer as the company to run a SWOT analysis on for multiple reasons. The first reason would be that they have become very publicized in the most recent years due to the COVID-19 outbreak. It is very interesting to see what they have been able to accomplish, especially with all of the backlash they have been receiving. Pfizer has helped the general population by creating and developing a beneficial vaccine that serves and protects our communities. The second reason I decided to choose Pfizer to run a SWOT analysis report on is because I am genuinely interested in seeing the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats this company holds. Pfizers mission statement is “It was the vision of Charles Pfizer at the very beginning, and it holds true today in everything we do. From scientific discovery to breakthrough products to our essential partnerships around the world, we’re committed to quality healthcare for everyone. Because every individual matters” (Our mission). Pfizer is using public health sector to stay on track with morals of Christianity. And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up” (Galations 6:9, ESV, The Holy Bible).
