Develop your project proposal, informed by readings, class discussions and the feedback you received online and in person during synchronous class sessions, that engages with a central question or concept related to a specific social justice issue. The final project may be a visual essay piece (that may include text and image). Keep the scope simple and accessible and be realistic as to what can be accomplished in one term. Consider in a pragmatic sense how this work will mobilize change on a social justice issue. Time based work should be under three minutes. Working in groups is encouraged.When developing this project please consider key themes around engagement and mobilization. Submit a written statement (500-1000 words) answering the following questions:Describe what you intend to make and the social justice issue you are responding toDescribe the audience you are speaking toDescribe the research you have used to develop this project, this could be readings, other artworks, archives, conversations with other people, your personal archives or external media sources.What are your primary questions, concerns and challenges?Situate the project along a continuum of cultural expression. How does this work continue, adapt or introduce new artistic approaches towards this particular social justice issue?In what ways does the work interrupt, interrogate or reframe a social issue for audience members?Locate yourself and the project within the issue. You do not have to be personally invested with this issue but an analysis of your own stakes with the issue will deepen the criticality of your work.Directly explain how this project is informed by ONE OR MORE ideas, artists, artworks or readings that are presented in this course.
