Prompt: Write a 3-4 page Short Story Literary Analysis Essay.
In your essay, you must analyze a theme. Please read the
lecture on Analyzing a Short Story carefully. You will need to
decide on a theme to analyze, and then decide whether to
support your analysis of theme with ideas or with literary
devices from the story.
You must use one of the following stories:

mention your restricted topic (the name of the short story and
author), and your essay’s debatable main point (the position that
you hope to convince the reader is correct). Also include your
three main points.
3. Look over the short story to find examples that support your
main points. (YOU MUST USE CITED TEXTUAL EVIDENCE FROM
THE STORY(IES).
4. Decide which examples should be included in the essay as
evidence.

You may choose a chronological order, placing the examples in
the same order as they appear in the story, or you may use an
emphatic order, placing the most important example last. Be sure
