(THIS IS THE CLIENT) Client David, a 12-year-old student in the seventh grade, has come to you as the school social worker to report a bullying incident. David has ADHD and struggles to connect with other students.

HOW TO WORK ON THIS ASSIGNMENT (EXAMPLE ESSAY / DRAFT)

In this role-play scenario, my colleague played the client, David, a 12-year-old student in the seventh grade who has ADHD and finds it difficult to connect with other students, and I played a social work intern. As the school social worker, David came to me to report a bullying incident.

I was able to show effective attending abilities by listening carefully to David and giving him my whole focus during our conversation. I gave him my whole attention, nodded, and prompted him to talk about his experiences. I also made use of active listening techniques like summarizing and paraphrasing to make sure I grasped his predicament completely.

We talked about the services that our organization offers, and I enquired about David’s need for our assistance. I clarified whether or not we could help him in his circumstance as well as our agency’s restrictions. I made it clear that we would cooperate to identify the best course of action and assistance for him.

I decided that our organization could assist David, so I gave him our help and support. I described the methods used by our organization to assist clients and the various ways we might help them, like by setting them up with peer support groups or providing therapy.

I also covered the value of secrecy and outlined its boundaries as part of the orientation to the assisting process. I informed David that I would keep whatever he communicated with me private, save from instances where I am legally compelled to report it, as when someone is in danger.

Finally, I talked about my experience as a social work intern and the various capacities that social workers have for assisting people and communities. I stated that as an intern, my responsibility is to collaborate closely with him and the organization to offer the best support I can.

In summary, this role-play scenario showed how to engage others professionally and encouragingly. I was able to create a secure and encouraging environment for David to share his experiences and get the support he need by paying close attention while I listened, setting clear expectations, and providing suitable support and services.
