A‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍rguementative analysis topic: Veatch argues vigorously against the traditional idea that the physician knows best. Are there additional reasons beyond what he provides for the correctness of his view? If so, how might his critics respond? Alternatively, what different lines of reasoning are there for thinking Veatch is wrong besides the approach offered by Groll? Argument Analyses are formal essays, and should be formally written and carefully edited prior to submission in the Dropbox. They should exhibit appropriate essay writing techniques (e.g., essay motivation, an early and clear thesis, section and topic sentences, paragraph organization), academic formatting and adherence to grammatical guidelines. This essay should achieve 1,200 – 1,500 words of analysis (exclusive of headings, source citations, and concluding remarks). Detailed guidelines, ‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍including a rubric, for this assignment will be made available in the course. An acceptable argument analysis must clearly address a specific philosophical question and provide a well-reasoned answer. The formulation of the question and the answer must employ appropriate ethical concepts, principles, and styles of reasoning addressed in the course. Argument Analyses, like the other assignments, should avoid quotation wherever possible. However, when quotations or close paraphrasing are necessary for clarity or to explicate a problem in these essays, a more formal citation is called for. Whether referring to assigned materials or outside research, use the Chicago style footnote method to insert necessary citations at the bottom of the page where the reference appears. (Resources for preparing these citations and page formats will be included in the course.‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍)
